Jon Moody, standing in for the pastor:

This is the first month of our church life after Dr. Green’s interim ministry.  He has told us that he left us prepared for our transition to a new settled pastor.  We are.  The search committee concluded its search and is in the final negotiations with a candidate who excited us from the very first reading of profiles.  We can’t wait to present this person to you.  However, we have to.  There are other commitments to honor before that last step.  We have asked to have July 30 reserved for our candidate to preach here and to be presented to you for a vote of the congregation.

In the meantime the Worship Committee, under the leadership of Cathy Ricks, has taken on the Sunday worship for the summer, and I am sure you have noticed that there is an “exciting lineup” set up for us.   We have taken charge of our church and own the responsibility and the joy.  New leadership will have a strong working congregation to work with and build with.

We have also established a partnership with Hiram College for this ministry.  Every time we ask ourselves what we ought to be like as a church and how we ought to relate to our community, we talk about the college and how the two Disciples of Christ institutions relate and how we might provide a ministry on the campus.  Now we will be present there in a formal way.  The college will contribute to the salary of our new pastor and he will be on campus the equivalent of one day a week.  Not only can we do this, it will make the ministry of our church more vibrant and expand our sense of self and our congregation.  And it will help the college express its historical identity in important ways.

July is going to be an exciting month.  Don’t miss it.
